🚀Getting Started

What is GeekHub?

GeekHub is a community platform built for Indian tech enthusiasts. It's a space where developers, designers, founders, students, and tech professionals can share knowledge, ask questions, discover job opportunities, showcase projects, and connect with like-minded people across India. Think of it as a forum, job board, and professional network combined — designed specifically for the Indian tech ecosystem.

How do I create an account?

Click Sign In in the top navigation bar, then choose to sign up with your GitHub account, Google account, or a traditional email and password. After signing up, you'll be prompted to choose a username and set up your profile. Email-based sign-ups require email verification before you can post.

Is GeekHub free?

Yes! GeekHub is completely free for individuals. Creating an account, posting, joining communities, using the resume builder, and browsing the jobs board are all free. We may introduce optional paid features in the future (such as premium job listings for companies), but the core community experience will always be free.

What is the reputation / karma system?

Your reputation score (sometimes called karma) reflects your contributions to the community. You earn reputation when other users upvote your posts and comments. A higher reputation unlocks certain privileges, such as the ability to vote, post in certain communities, or apply for moderator roles. Reputation cannot be purchased — it is earned purely through quality contributions.

👤Account & Profile

How do I change my username?

Go to your Profile Settings (click your avatar in the top-right corner, then Settings). Usernames can be changed once every 30 days. Note that changing your username will update your public profile URL, and old profile links will no longer work, so update any external links you've shared.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. You can request account deletion by going to Settings → Account → Delete Account, or by reaching out via our contact form. Account deletion removes your profile and personal data within 30 days. Public content you've posted may be anonymized rather than deleted to preserve discussion threads, unless you specifically request content removal.

How do I reset my password?

On the sign-in page, click Forgot password? and enter your email address. You'll receive a password reset link within a few minutes. If you signed up using GitHub or Google OAuth, you don't have a GeekHub password — log in using the same OAuth provider you used during sign-up.

How do I make my profile look great?

A complete profile helps others trust and connect with you. We recommend: uploading a clear profile photo, writing a short bio that mentions your skills or interests, adding your GitHub and LinkedIn links, and listing your current location (optional). Active members with complete profiles tend to get more engagement on their posts.

✍️Posting & Content

How do I create a post?

Click the + New Post button in the navigation bar (or on the home feed). Choose a community, add a title, write your content using our Markdown editor, and add relevant tags. You can include code blocks, images, and links. Hit Publish when you're ready. Your post will appear in the selected community and the main feed.

What makes a good post?

Great posts on GeekHub tend to have a clear, specific title; enough context for readers to understand the question or topic; relevant tags so the right people find it; proper formatting (use headings, code blocks, bullet points); and, if asking for help, include what you've already tried. Posts that add genuine value to the community — tutorials, project showcases, interesting discussions, helpful tips — tend to receive the most upvotes and engagement.

Can I edit or delete my posts?

Yes. You can edit your own posts and comments at any time by clicking the Edit option on the post. Edits are tracked and a small “edited” indicator may appear. You can delete your own posts and comments at any time. Note that if others have replied to your comment, the thread may show “[deleted]” to preserve context.

What are communities?

Communities (also called “channels” or “topics”) are topical sub-forums within GeekHub. Examples include Web Development, AI/ML, Open Source, Startups, Career Advice, and more. Each community has its own rules and moderators. You can join communities that interest you to see their content in your personalized feed. You can also create your own community if you don't find one that fits your needs.

💼Jobs Board

How do I post a job listing?

Navigate to Jobs in the navigation bar and click Post a Job. Fill in the job details including title, company, location (or remote), job type, required skills, salary range (optional but recommended), and description. Job listings are reviewed before going live to ensure quality. Currently, posting a job listing is free for all users and companies.

Is the job board free?

Yes, posting and browsing job listings is completely free during our current phase. We may introduce premium listing options in the future (for example, featured/pinned listings), but standard listings will remain free. We want to make it easy for Indian tech companies and startups to find great talent.

How do I apply for a job?

Click on a job listing to view the full details. Most listings include an Apply Now button that links to the company's application page or provides an application email. GeekHub does not process job applications directly — we connect you to the employer. Make sure your profile is up to date, as some employers may review your GeekHub profile as part of the hiring process.

📄Resume Builder

Is the resume builder really free?

Yes, the GeekHub resume builder is completely free. There are no hidden charges, no watermarks on exported resumes, and no premium tiers required to use any feature. We built it as a genuine tool to help Indian developers present themselves well to recruiters.

Do I need an account to use the resume builder?

You need a GeekHub account to save your resume and access it across devices. However, you can start building a resume without an account and sign up when you're ready to save or export. Your resume data is never shared with employers without your explicit action.

What formats are supported for export?

You can export your resume as a PDF, which is the format accepted by the vast majority of job applications. PDF export is clean, professional, and consistent across devices. We are working on additional format options.

What does ATS-friendly mean?

ATS stands for Applicant Tracking System — software used by most large companies and recruiters to automatically parse, sort, and rank incoming resumes. An ATS-friendly resume uses standard fonts, clear section headings, proper text (not images), and avoids complex tables or graphics that confuse parsers. The GeekHub resume builder is designed to produce ATS-friendly output so your resume is read correctly by these systems and your application doesn't get filtered out before a human sees it.

🔒Privacy & Safety

How do I report abusive content?

Every post, comment, and user profile has a Report button (usually accessible via the “...” menu). Select the most relevant reason and submit your report. Reports are reviewed confidentially by our moderation team. For urgent matters (threats, illegal content), you can also message us directly via our contact form. See our Code of Conduct for what we consider a violation.

Is my data secure?

We take security seriously. All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS. Our database uses row-level security to ensure users can only access their own data. Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted. We use Supabase (SOC 2 Type II certified) for our backend infrastructure. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

Who can see my profile?

Your public profile — username, bio, avatar, public posts, and communities you've joined — is visible to anyone who visits geekhub.in, including non-registered users and search engines. Your email address is never publicly visible. Direct messages are only visible to you and the recipient. You can adjust visibility settings in Settings → Privacy.

How do I block someone?

Visit the user's profile and click the Block User option from the “...” menu. Blocked users cannot send you direct messages, and their content may be hidden from your feed. Blocking is mutual — you will also not appear in their search results. If someone is harassing you, we also recommend reporting it to our team.

Still have questions?

Our team is happy to help. We typically respond within 24–48 hours.
