Community Code of Conduct

Last updated: March 2025

Our Pledge

GeekHub is a community built by and for Indian tech enthusiasts — developers, designers, students, founders, and curious minds of all backgrounds. We believe that the best communities are built on mutual respect, shared learning, and genuine helpfulness.

In the interest of fostering an open, welcoming environment, we — as members, contributors, and maintainers — pledge to make participation in GeekHub a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, caste, religion, nationality, level of experience, or educational background.

Our Standards

We expect all community members to uphold the following standards:

🤝 Be Respectful

Treat every member with courtesy and respect. Disagree with ideas, not with people. Constructive criticism is welcome — personal attacks, insults, and condescension are not. Remember that the person on the other end of your comment is a real human being.

🎯 Stay On Topic

Post content that is relevant to the community or channel you're in. GeekHub is about tech, development, career, startups, and related interests. Keep discussions focused, and use the most appropriate community or tag for your post.

🚫 No Spam or Excessive Self-Promotion

Sharing your work, projects, or blog posts is fine — in fact, we encourage it! But repeated, context-free promotion, affiliate links, MLM referrals, or posting the same content across multiple communities is considered spam. A good rule of thumb: contribute meaningfully before you promote.

No Hate Speech or Discrimination

Content that promotes hatred, harassment, or discrimination based on race, religion, caste, gender, sexual orientation, disability, nationality, or any other characteristic will be removed immediately. This is a zero-tolerance policy.

🔗 Cite Your Sources

When sharing articles, research, news, or others' work, link to the original source. Don't pass off others' work as your own. If you're sharing something that may be controversial, speculative, or unverified, say so.

💡 Help Each Other

This community thrives when experienced members help those who are still learning. If someone asks a question you think is basic, remember you were once in their position. A kind, helpful response costs nothing and means everything to a beginner.

Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors are explicitly prohibited and will result in moderation action:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or sustained negative attention targeting a specific user, whether publicly or via direct messages.
  • Sexualized language, imagery, or unwelcome sexual attention of any kind.
  • Doxing — publishing another person's private or personally identifying information without their consent.
  • Deliberate misgendering or use of rejected names/pronouns.
  • Threats of violence or harm, whether direct or implied.
  • Sharing pirated software, cracked tools, stolen credentials, or instructional content for illegal activities.
  • Impersonating another user, public figure, or GeekHub staff.
  • Brigading — coordinating groups to mass-downvote, report, or attack a specific user or post.
  • Creating alternate accounts to evade bans or restrictions.
  • Deliberately derailing discussions, trolling, or acting in bad faith.

Enforcement

Community moderators are responsible for clarifying and enforcing our standards of acceptable behavior. They will take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any behavior they deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.

TierAction
Tier 1Warning
Tier 2Temporary ban (1–30 days)
Tier 3Permanent ban

Moderators have discretion to apply any tier based on the severity of the violation. Severe violations (hate speech, threats, doxing, illegal content) will result in an immediate Tier 3 permanent ban without prior warning. All moderation decisions are final unless successfully appealed via our contact form.

Reporting a Violation

If you see content or behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, please report it promptly. You can:

  • Use the “Report” button on any post, comment, or user profile — this is the fastest way to flag content for review;
  • For violations not covered by the report button (e.g. off-platform behavior, urgent threats), use our contact form and select “Report Abuse / Spam” as the subject.

All reports are reviewed confidentially. We will never publicly disclose the identity of the reporter. We take all reports seriously and aim to respond within 48 hours.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies within all GeekHub spaces — posts, comments, communities, direct messages, events, job listings, and any other features of the platform. It also applies when a community member is representing GeekHub in public spaces (e.g., citing GeekHub in a conference talk, social media, or public forum). Behavior outside the platform that negatively affects community members or the platform's reputation may also be considered.

Acknowledgment

This Code of Conduct is adapted from the Contributor Covenant, version 2.1, and inspired by the codes of conduct of communities we respect. By participating in GeekHub, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and to help us maintain a community that we can all be proud of.
